# QR code scanner

A [QR code](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code) is a two-dimensional barcode used to encrypt information — for example, a site page address, product information, or text.

To open the QR code scanner:

1. In the [SmartBox](https://www.yandex.kz/support/yandex-app-ios/en/app/search.md#search), tap ![](../_assets/smart-camera.png).
1. Select the **Search** mode.
1. Hold your smartphone camera over the QR code.
1. Select the action.
